"One Day or Today" - 2019 Student Leadership Theme for College announced

“One Day or Today” is this year’s student theme. 

At last week’s school assembly, our 2019 student leaders launched their 2019 College theme with a presentation and display of the artwork. The artwork will hang adjacent to the Student Office as a reminder to all students of what we are striving for this year. The artwork for the 2018 theme has been retired to the Brenda Quinn Hall where it hangs alongside previous years’ themes.

Each year our student leaders are challenged to consider what is an appropriate theme for the coming year – one that all our students can aspire to.

The following are the Leadership Team’s insights into this year’s theme, shared at the assembly: 

“One Day or Today” is a theme that not only relates to you inside of school, it is something to consider and relate to in your personal life outside of school. It means, prioritize and do the things you say you’re going to do, now, not one day but today. It means,  step out of your comfort zone and do things you wouldn’t usually do. For example, I was extremely anxious to run for School Captain or Vice Captain, but one day it hit me that I need to get out of my comfort zone and do something new, something I wouldn’t usually do. Now being Vice Captain, it is probably one of the best decisions I’ve made. I didn’t procrastinate, I was motivated. I took action and conquered my fear, the fear of delivering a speech in front of all students and teachers and now look at me, I am standing here in front of you and I’m no longer afraid. With “One Day or Today”, I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and do the things you’ve said you wanted to do in the past that you never got around, ... today.

What would you do if you had no fear? If today you woke up fearless, imagine the possibilities. Those crazy impossible dreams that seem unreachable. Well today is the day to start. Take action. Do not let life pass you by. Get in the driver's seat. What do we always say in the Nano Nagle prayer “In the face of fear, she chose to be daring….In the face of impossibility, she chose to begin”
This year we are challenging you to make those changes in your life, to start something new, to chase those dreams that seem impossible. Take the first step. And you don’t have to go alone. We have the Lord our God who tells us “For nothing will be impossible with God.” With His strength by our side what is there to fear? So are we going to wait for one day or are we going to start today?

“One Day or Today” asks you to reflect on the thoughts you’ve been meaning to put into action. The big dreams or even the small tasks. Have you been procrastinating writing study notes, starting a sport, or pursuing your dream? Today is the day. And the day you start is the moment you’re one step closer to finishing. I’m sure we’ve all had work that we don’t want to do, but in the time you spend thinking about it you could have already completed it. Are there things that you dream of? Then do them. You can do anything you set your mind to. This year, Year 12 challenge you to stop overthinking and start doing, so that you can be the change you want to see in the world.
