Our Domremy teaching staff place high importance on their professional learning growth and are always looking for opportunities better themselves as teachers. Recently our Science Co-ordinator Mr Matthew Couani received his Masters of Education in Gifted and Year 8 Co-ordinator, Ms Katie Patterson received her Masters of Education in Educational Psychology. A further congratulations must be extended to Ms Patterson as the marks she received during her degree were sufficiently high for her to be given the accolade of 'Excellence'. When asked about their experiences of their degree they commented:

“We are often encouraged to be 'life-long-learners', which is easier said than done. Trying to live by this motto, however, is, at the very least, extremely rewarding. Last Wednesday night we were both recognised for our efforts by receiving our Masters of Education, which we completed at the University of NSW. At the ceremony we were presented with our certificates by the Dean of the University, David Gonski, whose work on education is spoken about regularly in debates about educational funding. His words of wisdom that he gave to us when we received our degrees were: "Fight narrowness" and "Choose hard over easy". These are both sentiments that as teachers at Domremy College we try to do, with each other as colleagues, and with our students.”

Congratulations to both of these outstanding educators.

Well done also to both Matthew and Katie who delivered an excellent presentation to the Sydney University STEM Teacher Enrichment Academy last Friday, on the STEM initiatives which have been implemented successfully at Domremy, where STEM is a strategic priority.

The presentation was delivered to a group of government and non-government school teachers hoping to enrol in the STEM Teacher Academy. Through this process of collaborative information sharing and development our teachers certainly live up to their motto of being lifelong learners, and of “choosing hard over easy”, all which forms part of our Growth Mindset Learning Philosophy at Domremy. Ultimately, it is our students who benefit.
